On the ride home, I wrote over four pages of notes for the direction of this blog and must say I'm pretty damn excited. But mostly just pretty.
OK, that was a bad joke. But still. I am excited.
So while I catch up on some work (I had over 150 emails to sift through yesterday), and outline my next few action steps, I wanted to share a few pictures and info on the coolest spots I hit in Seattle this weekend:
Amtrak train - Defiintely an interesting and worthwhile experience. I slept on a bed that was slightly bigger than my body and was kept in the bed by a canvas tether whenever the train went around a corner. Luxury!
Hotel Max- Probaby the coolest hotel I've ever stayed in. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the view of the city was awesome (we got a corner room on the sixth floor), and the art was a nice touch. (Every single door was a full black and white photo.)
Got a few days in Seattle? Here's some stuff I enjoyed doing:
The Bodies Exhibit - I once dissected a cat for my high-school science class. This was way better.
Pike Place Chowder - Nothing like some award-winning chowder after looking at a bunch of flesh, arteries, and internal organs!
Seattle Aquarium- I got yelled at for "grabbing" a slimy plant thing in the touch tank. Apparently I was supposed to use only one finger.
SkyCity Restaurant - The best way to drop a couple bills on steak, lobster, dessert, and drinks. Oh, and the whole restaurant does a 360 degree revolution every 47 minutes. The thing actually moves. Not the easiest thing to walk on after a few drinks...
The Whisky Bar - Over 250 brands of whiskey. Need I say more? (Actually, I do want to say more. Try the Pappy Van Winkle 20 year bourbon.)
Babeland - What? It was an interesting store.
Pike Brewing - What would a trip be without a beer tasting? The stout was good, but the rest of the beers were mediocre in my opinion.
The Original Starbucks - Yeah, there are a ton of coffee shops in Seattle, but this was right across from the Pike Place Market. I had to check it out

Alright, guys. I'm off to work. Check back soon for some very cool updates.

Come to Portland instead! you Got Widmer over here and the Rogue distillery/restaurant right in down town... i know u could appreciate that! Check out the underground while u were there??
Hey Ryan,
I've been to Portland a few times and the Rogue brewpub is my all-time favorite spot. I like the Kobe burger with a nice pint of Shakespeare Stout.

Good luck with catching up with work! Glad you enjoyed your stay. Just saw your site from Facebook and you have one awesome blog here on men's fitness. Looking forward to read more in the coming your...will subscribed to your RSS.
Hey Nate,
Liked the list, I'm just up in Vancouver and get down there as much as I can, mainly for flights within the States (it's a crapload cheaper then flying from Canada). There are a ton of great pubs down there.
Your pics were awesome too. Glad you enjoyed the northwest.
If you're ever up in Vancouver let me know!
Wow.
Thanks for making me jealous!
Great blog post, I don't know how you actually made that interesting - I couldn't give a crap about most peoples holidays. You're brilliant!
Look forward to the very cool updates. :)
Great post Nate! I live in Gig Harbor, like 45 minutes from Seattle, and love going there. Hotel Max, with it's pink sign looks so shady, haha, but i've never gone inside before. It's right downtown, so it has to be good i suppose. Bodies Exhibit was great, went there to help me study AnP. But kind of freaky how they left the hair and skin on the vagina of the female cadaver... and they were all totally asian.
Next time in Seattle, I'm sure several of the meatheads here can show you to any of the dozen or so brewpubs that put Pike to shame. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
I agree with Ryan!!1 Come to Portland......again. I live right downtown so available for tours. :)
Ya man the Kobe from Yakooza??? i actually went there this summer w/ a friend. delicious. another buddy of mine said that is was voted Portland's best burger or something
Nate,
Crazy, you were in my neck of the woods and I didn't even know about it. I live in North Seattle in the Green Lake neighborhood. It's a fantastic residential part of Seattle with some great scenery and lots of fitness-minded folk.
Weight lifting and bodybuilding don't have much of a following at gyms around here. It goes against the vegan/vegetarian/raw foodism, organic everything vibe of the Northwest, as I'm sure you know.
Return during the summer. The entire town changes. It's a bit surreal and goes against every popular notion of Seattle out there. To make up for our nine months of gloom we usually get three uninterrupted months of pure, cloudless bliss. I've never seen weather like it anywhere else.
I'd say come to Dallas, but all I like to do is go to the Dallas Museum of Art (for free on thursdays!) and go rock climbing at either Exposure or Stoneworks (Stoneworks has 100'+ tall routes. It's pretty cool).
I'm a bad tour guide. :\
.....you disected a CAT?!?!?!?! :o
Thats awesome seattle was a good time, I've always wanted to travel cross country and that is one of the places on my list.
The original starbucks...now i consider my self a coffee connoisseur :) and def need to check that out, please tell me they had like 100's of coffees to chose from, id be in heaven
Chris Stella
