Short-term discomfort for long-term gain

Short-term discomfort for long-term gain

Emailing and rejecting a client.

Breaking up with an apathetic and uninspiring girlfriend.

Handing in your two week notice.

Saying “Good Bye” to a circle of friends who do nothing but complain, bitch, and sulk.

Clicking “send” on an email to a potential mentor.

Introducing yourself to a group of high-powered executives.

Speaking up when someone challenges you.

Biting your tongue when someone challenges you.

Taking out a business loan.

Saying “no” to a bad idea from a good friend.

This weekend I was listening to an audio interview with Tim Ferriss, author of the Four Hour Work Week, when he said two things that stuck out to me.

The first was:

“Embrace short-term discomfort for long-term gain and comfort.”

The second?

“The worst kind of existence is 24 hour low-grade anxiety.”

You think about that.

What is the link to this audio interview, I bet the author would really appreciate the support.

I think it was with Internet marketing guru Yanik Silver, but I don't remember.

@ Nate:

Dude, we need to talk about posting an excerpt without linking to the full version. You jerk.

I know it's an old post, but hey.

Made interesting reading (short, but powerful). I have just started to spend less time with some 'friends' who rarely leave their front room. Funny thing is, I have another friend who is pretty much everything I aspire to be, and yet only spend time with him once a month or less. It's time for me to get up and make the effort, be the first one to pick up the phone and suggest doing stuff.

Starting a new job tomorrow, going to be quite stressful and it's not really what I want to do in life... however, it will make me financially able to embrace my free time. (buy a motorbike, climb a mountain, go sea fishing; eating what I catch)

I am not a robot; anymore.
